Reflection Questions
Why do you want to serve in the position for which you are caucused? Why are you qualified to do so? What will you uniquely bring to the Regional Board?
Ever since helping to found Chaverut BBYO in the spring of 2019, I have served as Mazkirah on my chapter’s board. When I learned about each board position for the first time, I was immediately drawn to becoming Mazkirah because I have always loved working with technology and social media. After serving as a member of Chaverut’s chapter board for almost two years now, I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience that will prepare me to be an effective Regional Mazkirah/Gizborit. I am a quick learner and can apply my previous chapter board experience to being an effective Gizborit as well. My social media skills will help me to successfully promote Gizborit-led events such as Giving BBYO Day. Additionally, I am a very organized person, which will help me to effectively manage the financial aspects of being a Gizborit.
Select one of the Menorah Pledge Principles and explain how you apply this principle in your day-to-day life. How does this principle influence your leadership style?
Community Service has always been an important part of my life. I volunteer as a math tutor for underprivileged kids on a weekly basis and I am a member of the Community Service Club at my high school, where we volunteer at the Clarke School (a school for deaf children) and at elderly homes. Working as a volunteer has taught me the importance of connecting on an individual level and forming authentic relationships. I have worked to apply these principles as a member of Chaverut’s Chapter Board and will hopefully continue to apply these as a member of the Regional Board. As a leader, I strive to recognize each member of the community’s needs and aim to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. My friends in BBYO are some of the most authentic friendships that I have, and they are a huge part of the reason why BBYO is so important to me.
Giving BBYO Day is a critical fundraiser for the Region. Without the grassroots donations we receive on this day, we could not provide scholarships, hold Conventions, have Kickoffs, or do any of the other cool things we do in BBYO. Explain how you would create, organize, and market a #GivingBBYODay experience that raises $30,000 on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 (a $10,000 increase from 2020).
In order to achieve our goal of $30,000, I would work to make #GivingBBYODay as fun as possible for each member involved. Ideally, if we are able to hold in-person events, I would hold an in-person calling and texting party with food and music. This allows members to hang out with their friends and help fundraise in a more community-oriented way. This event can also be held via Zoom if necessary. Using my experience with social media graphics from my terms as Mazkirah, I would work to create stories and posts for members to share on their personal social media platforms to market #GivingBBYODay by encouraging donations from family and friends. Finally, in order to give even more incentive to get donations, I would also hold a raffle giving away a to-be-determined prize, such as BBYO merchandise. The more money a member raises, the more entries that member receives.
